The spare-parts kit for your first container

Which fast movers to order, quantities per 10 bikes, why ~5% of bike value, and how to identify parts by VIN and engine code.

A dealer with parts is a dealer; a dealer without parts is a warehouse. Nobody ships a motorcycle back to China, so the practical after-sales system is the box of fast-moving parts that arrives in the same container. Here is what goes in it, why it costs what it costs, and how to order the right parts for the right bikes.

What to order per 10 bikes of one model

PartQty / 10 bikesWhy
Brake pads, front & rear10–15 setsThe first wear item on every bike; dusty markets double consumption.
Oil filters + air filters20 + 10One oil filter per service; air filters more often in dust.
Clutch & brake levers5 + 5The first thing to break in a drop. Cheap, and a customer without one cannot ride.
Cables: clutch, throttle3 + 3Stretch and fray; keep a few of each.
Chain & sprocket sets3For 450s and 300s; commuters wear slower.
Spark plugs20Cheap, universal, and a diagnostic tool.
Bulbs / LED units, indicators10 + 6Indicators break in drops; a bike without lights fails inspection.
Mirrors6Same reason.
Plastics: front fender, side panels2 sets per modelSlow-moving but impossible to source locally; one set per colour.
Fuel pump (EFI) / carburettor rebuild kit2Bad fuel is the top field failure; a pump on the shelf saves a bike for three weeks.
Regulator/rectifier, CDI/ECU2 + 1Electrical parts fail rarely but strand the bike completely.
Wheel bearings, steering bearings4 + 2Rough roads.
Battery2Bikes that sit in the showroom for months arrive with tired batteries.
Gaskets: valve cover, clutch cover; O-rings5 setsEvery valve-clearance check needs a gasket.
Tyres (front/rear, per model size)2 setsOnly if local sizes differ; 21/18 enduro sizes are often unavailable locally.

Adjust by market: dust and unpaved roads push filters, bearings and chains up; hot climates push batteries and cooling parts; cities push levers, mirrors and plastics (drops in traffic).

Why the kit is about 5% of bike value

At Chongqing wholesale prices the list above runs roughly 4–6% of the FOB value of the bikes it supports. The same parts retail at destination for 2–3× that, which means the kit is not a cost; it is the highest-margin line in the container, and it pays for the first year of warranty goodwill. Our estimator and quotes carry the kit as a separate line at ≈5% by default so you can see it and change it.

Ordering the right parts: VIN and engine code

Chinese tier-2 bikes share engine platforms across brands, so the part that fits is defined by the engine code and frame, not by the sticker on the tank. Two identifiers matter:

  • VIN (17 characters, on the steering head): identifies the frame, year and factory. We keep every VIN we ship on file with its spec.
  • Engine code (stamped on the crankcase, e.g. a code beginning with the platform family such as NC450 or 1P62): identifies the engine family and therefore filters, gaskets, pistons, clutch parts.

When you need a part later, send the VIN, a photo of the part and one of the engine stamp. We match it against the factory parts book and quote from Chongqing wholesale, consolidated monthly by air or sea.

Storing and selling the kit

  • Label bins by model and platform, not by brand.
  • Batteries: store charged, top up every 60 days.
  • Price parts at 2–2.5× landed cost; keep the labour honest and the customer comes back for the next bike.
The kit is a line in every quote. Build yours with the container estimator (toggle “matching spare-parts kit”), and see the maintenance schedules that drive parts demand in the support hub.
