🇨🇱 Importing motorcycles from China to Chile
Chile combines zero duty with the strictest homologation in the region (3CV). The workaround for small dealers is choosing models already homologated by another importer or using the small-series route. We check the 3CV status of any model before quoting for Chile.

What sells here
Segments that move in Chile
High incomes, zero duty and a strong adventure/dual-sport culture: Chile buys the premium end of the Chinese range, and is where 450 ADV and 500 twins earn the best margins.

Factory supplies COC-style spec sheet, VIN and emissions statement; EEC/DOT type approval is not included. Registration is routine in GCC, Andean and most African markets.

Standard export document set; EFI + ABS versions available which simplify registration in stricter registries.

Quote on request; some variants carry Euro 5-equivalent domestic certification, which helps but does not replace local type approval.

Same allocation conditions as the 820RR; confirm registry requirements before ordering for road use.

Off-road vehicle; no road type approval required in most markets. EPA/CE variants exist for markets that need them, at a premium.

Ports & transit
Where the container lands
| Port | Transit from China |
|---|---|
| San Antonio | 34–45 days |
| Valparaíso | 34–45 days |
| Iquique (north, ZOFRI) | 30–40 days |
Bikes are crated in Chongqing and move to the coast by rail or Yangtze barge (about a week), then sail. Add 1–2 weeks for pre-shipment inspection where your market requires it, and budget port-side charges of a few hundred dollars per container at each end.
Duty: Chile–China FTA: 0% for motorcycles with a valid certificate of origin (general rate without it is 6%).
Excise / other: No displacement excise on motorcycles; luxury tax applies only above a high threshold you will not reach with Chinese bikes.

Why this shape
- Anchors first. The higher-ticket models give the showroom something to talk about and carry the margin.
- Volume fills the box. Commuters and small enduros use the remaining cubic metres and turn over weekly, which pays the freight.
- Parts in the same container. About 5% of bike value in fast-moving parts means a warranty fix at destination is same-day, and it retails at 2–3× cost.
- Room to adjust. Every line is from 3 units per model (2 for UTVs). Swap models freely in the RFQ builder.
