Bikes earn you the sale. Parts earn you the customer for the next five years, and most of the margin. The Chongqing parts market is where the factories themselves buy, which means the dealer who understands it never waits three weeks for a lever again.
How the market works
Chongqing’s motorcycle industry is a cluster: a few hundred assembly factories buy from thousands of component suppliers within an hour’s drive, and the same suppliers sell through wholesale markets and trading companies. A brake caliper on a KEWS, a Zongshen and a tier-2 enduro may come from the same line. That is why platform-level parts knowledge (which engine, which caliper family, which chain size) matters more than the badge on the tank.
| Tier | What it is | Use it for | Price index |
|---|---|---|---|
| OEM-line | The factory’s own supplier, same drawing, same QC | Engine internals, ECU/electronics, plastics, frames | 100 |
| Aftermarket | Other supplier, same fitment, variable QC | Wear parts: pads, levers, cables, mirrors, filters | 50–80 |
| Standard | Industry sizes: bearings, chains, plugs, bulbs, seals | Consumables, in bulk | 30–60 |
Identifying a part so the right one arrives
- VIN (17 digits on the steering head plate): tells us factory, model year and sequence.
- Engine code (stamped on the crankcase, e.g. 162FMJ, 169FMM, NC450): tells us the engine family and most engine parts.
- Part number on the part itself, where present.
- Photos of the part in place and off the bike, next to a ruler, and of any markings.
Send those four things and a parts quote takes a day. Send “the plastic on the left” and it takes a week. Our parts support page has the photo checklist.
Standard consumables cross-reference
These sizes cover most Chongqing-built bikes. Confirm on the part before ordering in volume.
| Item | Common sizes / classes | How to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Drive chain | 428 (125–200cc), 520 (250–500cc), 525/530 (650cc+); state links, e.g. 428H-118L | Chain size is stamped on a side plate; count links before ordering |
| Spark plug | D8EA / DR8EA class (CG150–200), CR7E / CR8E class (250–450 liquid-cooled singles and twins), CR9E for sport tune | NGK numbering is the lingua franca; Chinese brands (Torch, Bosch-licensed) publish NGK equivalents |
| Wheel bearings | 6301-2RS, 6201-2RS (small commuters), 6004-2RS / 6203-2RS (250–500cc), 6005-2RS (650+ rear) | Code is engraved on the seal; -2RS = rubber sealed both sides |
| Bulbs | H4 (halogen headlamp), BA15s/BAY15d (tail/brake), W5W/T10 (position), most new models LED sealed units | LED units are model-specific: order by part number |
| Brake pads | Shape-coded; common sintered shapes FA86, FA152, FA181 families on Chinese calipers | Photograph the pad backing plate; suppliers match by shape and mounting |
| Oil filter | HF112-class cartridge (CG), HF204/HF303-class spin-on (twins), paper cartridge per NC450 | Ask for the filter drawing; many factories use one of three shared patterns |
| Air filter | Foam element (enduro), paper panel (street) | Foam elements are cheap and universal; order 2 per bike |
| Cables and levers | Model-specific lengths; levers in 3 common pivot patterns | Order by model, 1 set per 5 bikes |
| Battery | YTX5L-BS (CG), YTX7L/YTX9-BS (250–500), YTX12/14 (650+); lithium equivalents available | Match CCA and case size; AGM standard |

Full lists for every platform are in the support parts page; the spare-parts kit guide explains why we size the kit at about 5% of bike value.
Pricing logic, honestly
We buy parts at Chongqing wholesale and add 25–40% depending on how much identification and consolidation work is involved, disclosed on the quote. Even so, most items land at a third to a half of what the same part costs from a distributor in your market. Standard consumables in box quantities are where the numbers are best; one-off plastics for a rare model are where they are worst.
How parts ride with the bikes
Parts are packed in labelled cartons, strapped into the void spaces of the same container, listed on the same packing list (parts lines separate from vehicle lines for customs), and covered by the same insurance. A 20GP of 12 bikes typically has 1.5–3 m³ of usable void; that is a lot of filters. Batteries and oils have their own rules: lithium packs need the dangerous-goods paperwork in our e-moto guide, and engine oil ships as non-DG in most trades below a volume threshold.
FAQ
Are parts from the Chongqing market the same as OEM?
Three tiers exist: OEM-line parts from the factory’s own supplier, aftermarket parts made to the same drawing by a different supplier, and standard parts (bearings, chains, plugs, bulbs) that are industry-standard sizes. For a dealer, OEM-line for engine internals and plastics, aftermarket for wear parts, standard for consumables is the sensible mix.
What is the minimum order for parts?
Standard consumables are sold by the box (e.g. 10 filters, 50 plugs). Model-specific plastics and lamps typically 5–10 pieces. When parts travel in the bike container the minimums are easy to reach; a standalone parts shipment needs to reach roughly US$3,000–5,000 to be worth the freight and paperwork.
Can you source parts for bikes I did not buy from you?
Usually, if they are built on a Chongqing platform. Send the VIN, engine code and photos. Some brand-specific plastics and electronics are only available through the brand’s channel.
How much margin is realistic on parts?
Fast movers bought at Chongqing wholesale retail at 2–3× in most destination markets; dealer gross margin after freight and duty typically lands at 25–40% on parts, versus 10–15% on the bikes themselves. Parts are where after-sales pays.
